How to Help Los Angeles

Hi Reader,

I had a newsletter written for today about finding motivation to write. But with the devastation in Los Angeles, a cheery article felt tone deaf. Los Angeles was my home for 30 years, 20 years in Laurel Canyon, which was evacuated last night. I know that many of you live in LA. I pray that you are safe. I know that you are gutted.

I have found in the midst of terrible times, the best way to feel better is to help someone else. Even the smallest gesture can make a huge difference.

Ways To Help

Open Your Home

If you are lucky enough to still have a home, invite friends who have lost theirs to stay with you.

Help First Responders

Drop off water and snacks for first responders.

Fire Station Locations:

City of Los Angeles

Los Angeles County

Law Enforcement Locations:

LAPD

Los Angeles County Sheriffs

Animal Rescue

Thousands of animals have been displaced by the fires and shelters are at capacity. Consider fostering animals to make room at the shelters. They also need volunteers, food, blankets, and monetary donations.

The SPCA is taking donations.

Pasadena Humane animal control officers have been assisting with animal evacuations while staff have been working at the shelter to help take in the animals of displaced families. So far they have taken in over 100 animals, including a pony, and are continuing to take in animals for emergency boarding.

Make a donation. The organization is also accepting donated items, food, water bowls, extra-large crates and blankets. Items can be left in the donation bin in the front parking lot at 361 S. Raymond Ave, Pasadena 91105.

Help Residents

YMCA Koreatown locations are accepting donations including unopened food — bread, jam and canned goods — clothing, blankets, emergency supplies, and dog and cat food.

Donations can be dropped off at the Anderson Munger Family YMCA, 4301 W. 3rd St. in Los Angeles, doors close at 10 p.m.; and at the Koreatown YMCA, 433 S. Vermont Ave. in Los Angeles, doors close at 7 p.m.

The California Fire Foundation is working with local fire agencies and community organizations to support residents impacted by the blazes.

A donation to the California Fire Foundation Wildfire and Disaster Relief Fund directly supports victims of wildfires and disasters throughout California, including the L.A. County area.

The Salvation Army Southern California Division is working with government and nongovernment agencies to provide food, personal necessities, and shelter to survivors and first responders.

Donate through the Emergency Disaster Fund to help meet the urgent need across Southern California.

Baby2Baby is providing critical items, including diapers, food, formula and hygiene products for children and families who have lost their homes.

Donate to their Disaster Relief and Emergency Response Program.

World Central Kitchen’s relief team is in Southern California to support first responders and families affected by the fires, providing nourishing meals to people in need.

Donate.

If you know other ways to help, please hit reply and I will add them to the list
